OnePlus is a name synonym to quality flagship smartphone in a price that many can afford. With this motto and the tagline ‘Never Settle,’ the brand has released 8 devices so far and has seen steady success in all the phones. Consumers love the brand, the UI and what it has to offer in a market where phones are crossing $1,000 mark pretty easily. The latest addition to this is the OnePlus 6T the successor of this year’s already popular flagship smartphone OnePlus 6. In a classic OnePlus move, OnePlus has decided to not raise its smartphone price this year as well. So, with the same, what extra are you getting and what are you losing? Let’s find out in this detailed article.

OnePlus 6T Specification and Features

1. Display

OnePlus 6t Notch

The display is one of the first things you see when you lift a OnePlus 6t. It has a water drop style notch unlike the OnePlus 6 which has a classic style notch, and I gotta admit, I prefer this style over the old style. I was hoping, OnePlus would ditch notch for good, but I guess I was too ambitious. I am getting little off track here. Coming back to the display, OnePlus 6T has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio 6.4 inches display with 2340 x 1080 resolution. It is an Optic AMOLED panel with lift to display feature which you can turn on or off from the settings menu.

2. Fingerprint Scanner

OnePlus 6t Fingerprint Scanner

Another thing that you will notice instantly is that this device lacks a fingerprint scanner at the back as well as on the front. That is this because OnePlus 6T has implemented an in-screen fingerprint scanner which lets you unlock your phone by placing your hand on the display itself. This is a cool technology which has been implemented by only hand full of devices and OnePlus is among the few to make it available to the masses. OnePlus claims that their in-display sensor is better than other alternatives in the market.

3. Battery

OnePlus 6t has a bigger battery than the OnePlus 6. While OnePlus 6 supports a 3300mAh battery, OnePlus 6T is managed to house a bigger 3700 mAh battery. This 400 mAH extra is probably the reason why the device is a little thicker than its predecessor.

4. Camera

Camera

While OnePlus has added many features to the phone, the camera is the only section where it has kept it unchanged. OnePlus is using the same 16+20MP camera setup with the same sensor as the OnePlus 6. The front camera also remains unchanged. OnePlus has however added two new software features to the camera. The first one os NightScape which is like NightMode of Google Pixel 3 and the 2nd one of the studio lighting. The good thing is these features are software features and OnePlus has promised to add these to the OnePlus 6 devices as well.

5. Hardware

The hardware also remains pretty much same as the OnePlus 6. OnePlus 6T features the same 845 chipsets from Qualcomm paired with 6GB and 8GB RAM options. The only thing changed is the storage options. Now you can not buy 64GB anymore. OnePlus has made 128GB the base variant.

6. Body

One of the biggest change regarding physical appearance is its omission of 3.5 mm headphone jack. Yup… OnePlus has also decided to follow the iPhone footprint by removing the jack. Welcome to 2018… I guess. Thankfully, OnePlus is kind to enough to include a type-c to 3.55mm dongle with the phone. Another big change is the water drop notch. It does look better than the chunkier notches, but it also came with a trade-off. Notification led, is missing and OnePlus says they did that to make the notch smaller.

Other physical changes include a thicker phone and a slightly thinner chin bezel.

Software

OnePlus has one of the best software experiences with near stock-like features. OnePlus 6T ships with Android 9 Pie out of the box. The UI is OxygenOS on top of Android Pie. Like every other OnePlus device, OnePlus 6T is also going to deliver 2 more android updates they are available.

Price and Availability

Price is the strong game for OnePlus. OnePlus is always manages to offer best flagship features in low budget. This year is no different.

USA

OnePlus 6T is priced at $549 just like the OnePlus 6. You can order online from the OnePlus website. This year, OnePlus has also partnered with T-Mobile to make it available on their network. You can also get a discount of up to $300 on the exchange of your old smartphones.

India

India the biggest market for OnePlus. The OnePlus 6T is priced at 37, 999 in India which is 3,000 more than the OnePlus 6. It has less to do with OnePlus and more with the Dollar-INR conversion rate.

Europe

In Europe, OnePlus 6T is priced at £499 for the 6GB variant while the 8GB is available for £529.

So the question here is that should you upgrade to OnePlus 6T if you have a OnePlus 6? No, absolutely no. OnePlus 6 is a good phone, and honestly, OnePlus 6T is not a big improvement over OnePlus 6. But if you are using any older devices and wants a new flagship phone then definitely OnePlus 6T a good choice.
