How to Enable Night Mode/Dark Mode on Google Chrome on Windows and Mac
Remember when I said Google Chrome browser supports extensions which open another world of possibilities? Yeah! We are going to use an extension to give a dark mode makeover to the Google Chrome browser for Windows and Mac.
Step-1. Go to Dark Reader extension page from your Google Chrome and install the extension by clicking on the ‘Add to Chrome’ button.
Step-2. The Dark Reader extension will make the content of a webpage dark. The interface of Chrome browser will still remain light themed. To fix this, install Just Black Theme – which is developed by Google Chrome team – by clicking on ‘Add to Chrome’ button.
Step-3. Now you must have a dark mode enabled Google Chrome. All the web pages are now dark themed, and also the Chrome Interface is also nigh themed. Here are a few screenshots of Google Chrome after enabling dark theme on my Mac.
How to Disable Dark Theme on Google Chrome for Windows and Mac
I don’t know why you would want to disable the dark mode. I mean, it looks beautiful and also pleasing to the eye. But anyway if you want to disable the night theme on Google Chrome, simply follow the below steps.
Step-1. Right click on the Dark Reader extension and click on ‘Remove from Chrome…‘
Step-2. Go to Google Chrome Setting and scroll down to Themes.
Step-3. Click on ‘Restore to default‘ right next to the theme section.
How to Enable Dark Mode on Google Chrome on Android Smartphone
If you are an Android smartphone user and wants to enable dark mode for Google Chrome on Android, then you have come to the right place. It is worth mentioning that Dark Mode is yet to come for Google Chrome for Android smartphone. This trick is a workaround to enable the most anticipating dark mode. It might not work well with some webpages. Now that being cleared out, let’s see how you can enable dark mode on Google Chrome for Android.
Step-1. Open the Google Chrome browser and head to the settings menu. To open setting, tap on the three-dot menu from the bottom right corner, or if you are using an older version of Chrome, then you will see the three-dot menu on the top right corner. Then select ‘Settings.‘
Step-2. In the settings menu, find ‘Accessibility‘ setting and tap on that. Here you will see an option which says ‘Simplified view for web pages.‘ Enable this feature by tapping on it.
Step-3. This option let you enable reading mode by removing unnecessary clutters from the screen. Every time you are on a webpage which can be converted into the reading mode, you will see an option at the bottom of the screen which says ‘Show simplified view.‘
Step-4. Tap on that option. This will convert the web page into the reading mode page. Here on the top-right corner, you will see a three-dot menu. Tap on it and then select ‘Appearance‘ and then select ‘Dark‘ to make the webpage dark.
Step-5. Now you have a dark themed web page. You need to follow the above steps for one time only. After that when you are on any web page, and tap on that ‘Show simplified view’ option, you will see a dark mode enabled webpage.
